Y9 Mountain Biking
Dear Parents & Students,
Following your son’s request for Outdoor Education this year, I am pleased to invite him onto the mountain biking session, this is a very exciting activity for students to challenge and promote their self-confidence and self-esteem, provide problem solving opportunities and develop team working skills.
Please see your son’s allocated date and time on the text message you had received with this link on.
The session will be based at Sutton Park where students can get used to riding off road in a safe environment, being introduced to skills and techniques to overcome obstacles such as streams, rock gardens and steep descents as well as understanding personal safety, group management and the county side code. We will be using the forest to put all the skills they have learnt into practise. Students will also have the opportunity to work towards the KNBS Mountain Biking Awards.
Students will be transported in the school minibus and we will tow the bikes on our custom-built road trailer. Students will have the opportunity to ride the school 14inch or 16inch frame size Carrera mountain bikes. If students would like to use their own bikes, please see the link below regarding equipment and safety gear requirements. All requirements must be fulfilled for students to use their own bikes for insurance and safety reasons.
A complete change of old clothes is recommended including gloves, socks, and shoes plus a towel and plastic bag for the muddy wet clothes and shoes. Please supply a packed lunch and a large drink. Bike helmets and ruck sacks to carry lunches in on the ride will be supplied for the day.
Students are to meet at the outdoor education store room D 1.6, next to the canteen after assembly/registration and will return at approximately 3pm to wash the bikes and pack kit away. Students can come to school wearing their biking clothes. (Please remember to bring a spare change of clothes).
In order for your son to take part in this activity, we will need the online medical consent form (link below) submitted before his allocated date.
To maintain this wonderful opportunity for our students, it is essential we have contributions from families. A contribution of £10 per student (£5 for students in receipt of pupil funding) goes towards equipment costs, maintenance of equipment and repairs for all activities.
Contributions are to be made via ParentPay to the ‘Outdoor Adventure Programme – Mountain Biking’ item.
If your son is unable to take this opportunity, then please let me know so we can reallocate the space.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
Thanks for your support.
Mr B Julian
Head of Outdoor Education.
