Y9 Canoeing – River Trip

Dear Parents,

Following your son’s request for outdoor education this year, I am pleased to invite him on to one of our canoeing river days, which will take place this academic year.

Please see your son’s allocated date on the text message you received this link on.

We will be based on the River Severn paddling from Hampton Loade to Arley. This will be a chance to put all the skills learnt from pervious canoeing experience into practice on moving water along with working towards their KNBS canoeing awards. (If the rivers are flowing too high, this will turn into a canal trip for safety reasons.)

Students should meet me by the Outdoor Education Room at 8.30 am. Students are not required to go to form.

The Outdoor Education room is D 1.6, by the side of the dining room. We will return to school at 3.30pm, depending on river flow and traffic. Students should attend school in full uniform, there will be time to get changed before the activity. Students will be transported in the school mini bus.

Students will be given full wet suits, boots, windproofs and buoyancy aids. Please send your son with swimming shorts, a towel, a packed lunch and drink. The weather may still be cold this time of year, so bring a few extra layers, gloves and a hat are advisable.

In order for your son to take part in this activity, we will need the online medical consent form (link below) submitted before his allocated date.

To maintain this wonderful opportunity for our students, it is essential we have contributions from families. A contribution of £10 per student (£5 for students in receipt of pupil premium funding) goes towards equipment hires costs, maintenance of equipment and repairs for all activities.

Contributions are to be made via ParentPay to the ‘Outdoor Adventure Programme - Canoeing’ payment item.

If your son is unable to take this opportunity, then please let me know so we can reallocate the space.

Thanks for your support.

Yours sincerely

Mr B Julian
