Y8 Outdoor Adventure Programme Choices

Dear Parent /Carer,

At King’s Norton Boys’ School, we are very proud to be able to offer all students in Year 8 an opportunity to attend Outdoor Education sessions in a variety of outdoor activities during their next academic year from September.

It is a key part of King’s Norton Boys’ School to enable all of our students to access various forms of outdoor activities. The benefit that the students gain from the social and leisure pursuits on our outdoor education courses is long lasting and unique to the school.

Each student has the opportunity to take part in the Outdoor Adventure Programme by picking two activities from the list below.

In each activity they will have the chance to work towards KNBS Outdoor Awards along with gaining new and developing existing skills in their chosen activities along with personal skills like team work, confidence building and self-esteem.

These activities are:

Canoeing on local lakes and canals

Dinghy sailing at Bartley Sailing Club

Mountain biking on local trails and off-road tracks

Rock climbing at local indoor walls.

All safety and activity kit is provided, all students will need to bring is a packed lunch, spare clothes and a sense of adventure.

To maintain this wonderful opportunity for our students, it is essential we have contributions from families. A contribution of £10 per activity (£5 for students in receipt of pupil premium funding) goes towards equipment hires costs, maintenance of equipment and repairs for all activities.

Contributions are to be made via ParentPay closer to the time along with a completed consent form.

If your son would like to take this opportunity, please complete the Y8 Outdoor Adventure Programme Choices form before Friday 25th June.

Once I have received the interest forms, students will be assigned dates and sent a confirmation letter with more details in the next academic year. Letters will be sent closer to the time of their chosen activity. Activities happen roughly at the following times:

Dinghy Sailing – September / October / June / July

Canoeing - April / May

Rock Climbing – February / March

Mountain Biking – November / December / January

(These times may change depending the amount of students wanting to do each activity.)

If you have any questions, please get in touch
