Duke of Edinburgh Award - Bronze

Dear Parent,

Every year the school offers students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. The award offers young people the chance to develop individual, team and social skills. It also gives the participant a chance to make a difference in their community. As such, it is highly regarded by colleges, universities and employers.

The bronze award revolves around four key areas: physical recreation, skill, volunteering and expeditions. More information about the award can be found on the D of E web site www.dofe.org. I strongly recommend visiting the web site for further information.

If your son is interested in the D of E award then there will be an information meeting on Wednesday 23rd October, 4.30pm in the school hall, where the programme will be explained in more detail. There will also be a D of E information pack that can be taken home to talk though with you along with a copy of the presentation.

The cost for the whole Bronze package is £160. This includes the registration with the official body, the D of E pack, and discount card for outdoor clothing shops, two days of expedition training, a two-day practise expedition and a two-day assessed expedition. All dates will be in the information pack. An enrolment form and a bite size planner are also enclosed in the information pack which must be completed and returned to the school office if your son wishes to join the school’s D of E award group.

If you wish your son to take part please return the enrolment form, bitesize planner and make payment via ParentPay (DofE Bronze award) no later than Friday 8th November.

Bookings will not be live until after the information evening.

Should you have any other queries about the award, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Mr B Julian
