The Duke of Edinburgh Award – Expedition Training Details
Dear Parents & Students,
Please find below details for the D of E Expedition training weekend which will be held on Friday 10th to Sunday 12th March 2023.
Location
Friday 10th March – We will meet in the hall at 3.05pm to recap the equipment needed for the weekend. You will not be required to bring anything to this session. We should be finished around 3.30pm ready for you to pack for the following day.
Saturday 11th March – Kings Norton Boys School – 9.45am start.
We will spend the day at school completing the D of E expedition training framework for your expedition section. This will include map & navigation skills, route planning, emergency procedures, camp craft, food & cooking, and first aid. We will be putting this all into practice and camping overnight on the school field on the Saturday night. You will be expected to bring all the necessary equipment required for your expedition in a rucksack for this training. As part of this equipment, you will be expected to bring a sleeping bag, roll mat, change of clothes and food to cook for dinner and breakfast. Please use the equipment list found in the booklet from our first training session to help you.
Sunday 12th March - Finish approximately 3.30pm at Clent Hills Visitor Centre, Nimmings Wood Car Park, B62 0NL
We will wake up at school on the Sunday morning and cook our breakfast on the school field. After this we will pack up our tents and equipment and will put our navigation and Saturday’s training into practice. We will spend the day walking and navigating, getting ready for the final expedition. Anything you bring to school will need to be taken with you in your rucksack. Mr Julian will be taking you in the school minibus to your starting point, but you will need to make your own way home. We will aim to finish the walk around 3.30pm, however, this may vary. We would recommend you have a way to contact home to let them know when you have finished. We do have a very limited number of seats available on the school minibus back if transport is not available, but please email me to arrange.
Food
You will need to bring a packed lunch, snacks, and drinks for each day of the training weekend.
