Duke of Edinburgh Award - Bronze
Every year the school offers students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. The award offers young people the chance to develop their individual, team and social skills. It also gives participants a chance to make a difference in their community. As such, it is highly regarded by colleges, universities and employers.
There are four sections to complete at Bronze level. They involve: helping the community/environment; becoming fitter; developing new skills; and planning, training for and completing an expedition. More information about the award can be found on the D of E website www.dofe.org. I strongly recommend visiting the website for further information.
The D of E scheme is a fantastic award; however, it does require a high level of commitment from participants. Students are expected to organise and commit to at least 3 hours of completing a physical activity, working on skill and volunteering every week outside of school hours.
If your son is interested in completing his D of E award, please view the video below with him for more details.
The cost for the whole Bronze package will be around £80 (PP student funding £40). This includes registration with the official body; a D of E information pack; a discount card for outdoor clothing shops; expedition training; expedition resources & equipment; and a two-day assessed expedition. However, this price may change depending on the number of students who register their interest.
Students will need to be available on the following dates:
Friday 9th February 2024 - 14:00 to 16:00 and Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd March 2024
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March 2024
If you wish your son to be considered for a place on the DofE programme, please fill out and return the Interest form (link below) by Wednesday 15th November 2023.
Once the interest forms have been returned, those who have expressed interest will be sent further information about final costs and arrangements.
Should you have any other queries about the award, please do not hesitate to contact me.
